Directory Of Local Services
Funeral providers can generally be classified by one of three categories:
1.
Alternative. These providers
minimize overhead by operating from a single location and using neighbourhood
churches and other venues for funeral services. They specialize in
cremations.
2. Corporately Owned. Service Corporation International (which has recently purchased the Alderwoods chain) owns about 75% of all funeral homes in British Columbia.
3. Independents. These are locally owned neighbourhood family-owned funeral homes and chapels, that frequently offer less expensive services and products. Many provide exclusive services to the Memorial Society of British Columbia.
